UTI-Dallas/Fort Worth Hosts Sixth Graders As Part Of College Readiness Program

The Universal Technical Institute’s Dallas/Fort Worth campus in Irving recently hosted a dozen sixth-grade students from the Hurst Euless Bedford School District as part of the district’s College Readiness Program.  The tour and activities focused on the students’ future goals, along with a STEM activity to demonstrate how Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are all important when training future auto and diesel technicians.

The students spent time on the tour learning about the different programs and options available at UTI.  They also received information about the variety of careers available to auto and diesel technicians, including the oil and gas industry, railroads, farm equipment, and eighteen-wheelers, as well as automobiles.

The highlight of the tour was a visit to the Dyno Lab, where a modified Ford Mustang was put on the dynamometer to measure its engine’s power and torque.

“We want to get these students excited about their future,” said Jesus Miranda, campus president of UTI-Dallas/Fort Worth. “The STEM curriculum that they are learning in school now is a perfect fit for a career as an auto or diesel technician.”

After the tour, the students put their STEM knowledge to use and worked on individual electrical boards to get a light bulb to light up.  Eventually, they were all successful getting at least one to three bulbs shining bright, just like their futures.
