MacArthur Junior Snags State SkillsUSA Title, Qualifies for Nationals

Thomas Rogers, a junior at MacArthur High School, won the 2015 SkillsUSA state champion title in diesel equipment technology and a bid to nationals this summer. In addition, Rogers won a $10,000 scholarship to Universal Technical Institute and a socket and ratchet set from Snap-On Tools.
 
The contest takes into account technical knowledge, hands-on abilities, interviewing skills and job resume. Rogers qualified for the state competition by outscoring 15 students and placing first in District 6 competition on February 6. At state competition, which was held March 27 in Corpus Christi, he outscored nine of the state’s top students to become the Texas champion. Skills USA National competition is June 22-26 in Louisville, Ky. Also at the competition, Conner Snyder, a junior at MacArthur, placed third out of 24 in automotive technology.
