Irving Conducts Water Meter Infrastructure Project

he City of Irving Water Utilities Department is conducting a water meter replacement and meter endpoint validation project for the water system. As part of this project, all existing water meters are examined to determine age, make and model, and condition, with an evaluation for the need of replacement.

The city has contracted with Pedal Valves, Inc. (PVI) of Luling, Louisiana, for the project. All audit and field installation work is performed either by PVI or City of Irving employees. The company will provide water meter installation labor services in tandem with city staff through Jan. 1, 2021, weather permitting.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

For this project, the contractor will work alongside the city’s meter reading staff to assure a smooth transition during normal meter reading schedules. This will help eliminate a misreading of meters for billing.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

Customers should be aware that all contract employees will wear a PVI ID badge, identifying each installer as a City of Irving outside contractor. In addition, work vehicles will have magnetic signage indicating an approved Water Utilities contractor is in the area (see example).

Customers should not let anyone into their home without a prescheduled appointment and verification of a City of Irving ID badge. Should a resident have any doubt about the validity of the installer’s badge or identity, contact the City of Irving Water Utilities Department at (972) 721-2281.
