Grand Prairie Police Officer Kills Armed Woman While Responding to Family Violence Call

On December 9, 2023, at approximately 7:10 PM, the Grand Prairie Police Department (GPPD) responded to a family violence call reporting an assault in progress in the 1200 block of Tripoli Trail. Upon arrival, officers encountered a victim who had managed to escape the residence through a window. She was swiftly moved to a safe location by responding officers.

As officers spoke with the victim, the alleged suspect, an adult female, exited the residence armed with a handgun. The suspect proceeded to advance towards both the officers and the victim, brandishing the firearm in their direction. Fearing for their lives and the safety of the victim, a single officer discharged their duty weapon, striking the suspect.

Following the incident, officers provided first aid to the suspect. Despite their efforts, the suspect succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The identity of the deceased suspect will be disclosed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.

In accordance with established procedures, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer‐Involved Shooting Team has taken charge of an independent investigation into the incident. Simultaneously, the Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will be conducting a concurrent administrative investigation.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.
