Denton Mother Convicted in Child Murder Case Receives Life Sentence

In a verdict reached on January 22, 2024, 46-year-old Sabrina Ann Ho was convicted of Capital Murder for the death of her 7-year-old son, Phoenix Ho, on April 1, 2022. The Capital Murder charge carries an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Additionally, the jury found Sabrina Ho guilty on four counts of Injury to Child causing bodily injury, one count of Injury to a Child by Omission causing serious bodily injury, and one count of Injury to a Child causing serious bodily injury. For the serious bodily injury counts, Sabrina Ho received a life sentence, and for each bodily injury count, a 10-year prison term was imposed. The jury also imposed a $10,000 fine on all counts related to Injury to a Child.

The victim endured weeks of suffering with multiple significant injuries, described by witnesses as some of the most severe they had encountered in their professional careers. On April 1, 2022, the Denton Fire Department responded to provide aid to the victim.

The case was investigated by Denton Police Department, led by SUV Detectives Scott Salazar and Samy Sanchez, with assistance from investigators from Homeland Security. The trial, conducted by Assistant District Attorneys Lindsey Sheguit, Rick Daniel, and Dustin Gossage, received support from Emily Chilivetis.

The trial team collaborated with Chief DA Investigator Mike Sparby and Victim’s Assistance Coordinator Dr. Beverly Bailey. The Denton District Attorney’s office expressed gratitude to law enforcement partners for their assistance in the investigation. The jury's thorough review of the trial evidence was acknowledged, emphasizing the attainment of justice for the victim.
