Suspect Pleads Guilty, Receives Life Sentence for Murders and Aggravated Robberies in Cedar Hill and Duncanville

Garrett Shay Hamilton

In a development on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Garrett Shay Hamilton pleaded guilty and received a life sentence for two murders and an additional 25 years for his involvement in five aggravated robberies.

The case originated on November 2, 2022, when Duncanville Police Department Officers responded to an aggravated robbery at a Wells Fargo ATM in Duncanville. Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect, later identified as Garrett Shay Hamilton, had used the victim's credit card at a nearby Walmart. Duncanville Detectives, using surveillance footage from Walmart, positively identified Hamilton. A day later, a warrant was issued for Hamilton's arrest in connection to the aggravated robbery.

However, as authorities intensified the search for Hamilton, it was discovered that he had committed two aggravated robberies and a murder in Cedar Hill on the same day as the Duncanville offense. Additionally, the week prior, Hamilton was linked to two more aggravated robberies and another murder.

A few days after the initial warrant, Hamilton was located and arrested on charges related to the Duncanville incident. Subsequently, he was charged with a total of five aggravated robberies and two murders.

The sentencing reflects the dedication of the Duncanville Police Department to collaborate with law enforcement partners to apprehend those responsible for violent crimes. The department expressed gratitude towards the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, Prosecutor Biggins, and Investigator Sgt. Jacob for their efforts in constructing a strong case and their commitment to justice for victims of violent crimes.
