Major Traffic Shift: Southbound SH 121 Commute to Downtown Fort Worth Altered Starting February 26

Beginning February 26, commuters traveling southbound on SH 121 toward downtown Fort Worth will experience a significant change in their morning drive. For years, the journey from the mid-cities or northeast Tarrant County to downtown Ft. Worth has relied on a left exit on the section of I-820/SH 121/SH 183 between the Northeast interchange and SH 10. However, that is about to change.

Construction crews are wrapping up their work ahead of the Monday commute to implement a new alignment for southbound SH 121, where the right and left exits will swap positions. Under the new arrangement, southbound SH 121 traffic will exit to the right, while southbound I-820 traffic will remain to the left. This transition is slated for completion in time for the morning commute on February 26.

While adjusting to this change may disrupt daily routines and habits, it aims to enhance safety and reduce congestion by minimizing traffic weaving between the Northeast interchange and SH 10 as drivers split off to head south on I-820 or toward downtown Fort Worth. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) urges drivers to exercise patience and understanding as everyone adapts to the new alignment.
