Dallas Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Assaulting Security Officer with Knife

Alejandro Garcia

Alejandro Garcia, a 40-year-old man, has been found guilty of aggravated assault on a security officer and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The incident took place on July 28, 2023, when a store manager at a local shopping center alerted security to people consuming alcohol on the premises. Upon arrival, the security officer, whose identity remains undisclosed, approached the group and requested they vacate the area. While most complied, Garcia remained and began verbally berating the officer. The situation escalated when Garcia took out a knife and made threats to stab the security officer, advancing towards him in a threatening manner.

The security officer deployed pepper spray, forcing Garcia to retreat. Despite initially fleeing the scene, Garcia returned over an hour later, continuing to consume alcohol on the property, leading to his arrest by Dallas Police officers.

During the trial's punishment phase, the jury heard evidence of Garcia's criminal history, including a prior felony conviction for burglary of a habitation, federal charges for illegal re-entry into the country, and the revelation that the incident marked at least his fourth illegal entry into the United States.

Following deliberation, Garcia was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years in prison for his aggravated assault on the security officer.

The case was prosecuted by lead attorney Amber Moore, assisted by Marissa Trevino, with DA Investigator Tom Naulty representing the state. The investigation was led by the Dallas Police Department.
