In Killeen, a 53-year-old man named Larry Lamont Hawkins is currently facing charges of Murder and is being held in the Bell County Jail. Detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit presented the case to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office, resulting in the charge against Hawkins. Associate Judge Randy Dale set his bond at $150,000 during Hawkins' arraignment.
The victim in this case has been identified as 26-year-old Deante Treshawn Hawkins.
The incident took place on Saturday, March 23, 2024, around 7:53 p.m. Killeen Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 3500 block of Rusack Drive. Upon arrival, they found a male inside a residence with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by both officers and Killeen EMS, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace James at 8:38 p.m.
An adult male who was present at the scene was taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail.
Authorities have stated that this incident is connected to domestic/family violence and have assured that there is no ongoing threat to the community stemming from this particular incident.
