The Richardson Police Department is currently investigating a fatal crash that took place on March 26, 2024, at around 2:54 p.m.
Officers responded to reports of a collision at the intersection of Buckingham Rd. and S. Sherman St. Upon arrival, they discovered a Honda SUV with visible damage and unable to move. Nearby, in the parking lot of a neighboring business, an Acura SUV had crashed through a fence before colliding with a tree. The Acura subsequently caught fire.
Witnesses at the scene intervened swiftly, rescuing both the driver and passenger from the burning Acura. However, the driver, identified as 74-year-old Nurus Chowdhury and a resident of Richardson, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger sustained significant injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the Honda emerged from the incident unharmed.
According to information provided by witnesses, the Acura was traveling westbound on Buckingham Rd. while the Honda was heading northbound on S. Sherman St. at the time of the initial collision.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with the Special Crash Investigation Team leading the efforts.
