Dallas and Bedford Police Pursuit Ends in Colleyville with Suspect Self-Inflicted Gunshot

A pursuit of a possible aggravated robbery suspect led Dallas Police into the city of Bedford on Friday morning, March 29, 2024, culminating in a tense standoff that ended with the suspect critically injuring himself.

Dallas Police, surveilling the suspect as part of an ongoing investigation, sought assistance from Bedford Police around 10:30 am for a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle. Bedford Officers located the suspect driving in their city and attempted to initiate the stop.

Shortly after, Colleyville Police were dispatched to Brentwood Drive to aid an outside agency. The suspect failed to yield during the traffic stop, leading officers on a chase that ended in the cul de sac of Brentwood Court in Colleyville. Exiting his vehicle, the suspect brandished a pistol but did not aim it at anyone.

Colleyville and Bedford Officers, along with additional resources including SWAT teams, negotiators, and air support, contained the suspect. Nearby residents were urged to stay indoors and lock their doors through both NETCOM Dispatch and CodeRed alerts.

After nearly three hours of negotiations, the North Tarrant Regional SWAT Team attempted to resolve the situation using non-lethal distraction methods. However, during the deployment, the suspect retrieved his handgun from his vehicle's hood, turned it on himself, and discharged the firearm.

Immediate aid was rendered by Colleyville Fire Department Paramedics, who transported the suspect to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
