McKesson Corporation has unveiled its latest endeavor, Project Oasis, with the goal of advancing health equity in underserved communities. The initiative, spearheaded by McKesson's Global Impact Organization and Community Pharmacy & Health, aims to tackle pharmacy deserts, particularly in urban areas where accessing vital pharmacy services can be challenging.
Avondale, OH, a neighborhood in Cincinnati, has been chosen as the inaugural site for Project Oasis after a thorough evaluation of various underserved communities nationwide. McKesson facilitated an expedited path to independent pharmacy ownership for Dr. Emmanuel "Manny" Ayanjoke, a licensed pharmacist committed to building strong community connections. With the backing of Project Oasis, Manny and Altev Community Pharmacy are now serving Avondale residents and addressing healthcare disparities in the area.
Nimesh Jhaveri, McKesson's executive vice president and chief impact officer, emphasized the significance of community pharmacies in promoting health equity. "Project Oasis reflects our commitment to making a lasting impact as we fulfill our purpose of Advancing Health Outcomes for All®," stated Jhaveri.
McKesson plans to explore further opportunities to enhance its health equity initiatives, aligning with its mission to enhance care in all settings. Dr. Ayanjoke expressed pride in being part of Project Oasis and in serving Avondale. "Every day, Altev Community Pharmacy will provide compassionate, whole-person care to support a community that has long struggled with limited access to essential healthcare services," remarked Dr. Ayanjoke.
