Nine Injured, One Dead After Gunfire Erupts at South Dallas Party

On April 13, 2024, at approximately 11:10pm, Dallas Police responded to reports of gunfire on 4500 Collins Avenue in South Dallas. Initial findings revealed that a large gathering had dispersed onto the street following the conclusion of a nearby party. When authorities arrived, the shooting had ceased, but officers remained nearby, monitoring the area.

A few hours later, at around 1:35 am, gunfire erupted once again, striking nine individuals within the crowd. Among the victims were seven women and two men, who were transported to local hospitals by Dallas Fire Rescue and private vehicles.

One of those wounded, 21-year-old Coriesha Bradford, succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital, while the other eight adult victims sustained non-life-threatening wounds and are expected to recover.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting was initiated by one individual, followed by others joining in. At present, there is no available description of the suspect(s). Detectives are actively pursuing leads and suspect gang involvement.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Detective Phillip Wheeler at 214-671-3686 or via email at Phillip.wheeler@dallaspolice.gov. The investigation remains ongoing.

UPDATE: At the time of the incident at 1:35 am, the crowd size was approximately 45-50 people.

“I have many questions about what happened last night that led to the death of a 21-year-old woman, and eight people being injured.  While the preliminary investigation determined officers who responded did not observe criminal activity among the people in the area at the time, this event ultimately led to tragic consequences.  Our homicide detectives are currently working to determine who was involved in this incident, and how. I’ve ordered an internal investigation to determine if we could have handled the circumstances of this call differently. Every day the men and women of this department work to keep our city safe. It’s important that we gather all the facts before coming to any conclusions. I am committed to the highest level of accountability, professionalism and transparency for the Dallas Police Department.”, said Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia in a statement.
