Netflix Releases Docuseries Chronicling Jerry Jones and 1990s Dallas Dynasty

On Tuesday, the eight-part docuseries America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys debuted on Netflix, spotlighting Jerry Jones’ purchase of the Dallas Cowboys and the franchise’s rise to dominance in the 1990s.

Directed by Chapman and Maclain Way, the series features stories of the team’s transformation, including Jones’ acquisition of the Cowboys, the Herschel Walker trade, the creation of the “Triplets” — Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin — three Super Bowl wins in four years, and the high-profile split between Jones and coach Jimmy Johnson.

The series includes appearances by Cowboys legends Aikman, Irvin, and Smith, as well as prominent figures such as former U.S. President George W. Bush and Nike co-founder Phil Knight.

Jones, along with his family, Irvin, Smith, and others, attended the Hollywood premiere of the series on August 18, where a blue carpet event brought together former players and staff.

Reflecting on the project, Jones told reporters, “It refreshed the memory, I appreciated guys like Michael, Jimmy, Troy, Charles Haley, Deion [Sanders], all those guys, and I can’t wait for you to see all of the stuff about Deion.”

Jones added, “For me, really to end up with a story we’ve had of our success, it was a close call. No matter how you make it, it was really close all the way through.”

The series is now streaming on Netflix.
