Irving Weekly Will Begin Covering the Mavs Tonight
At Irving Weekly, we are very excited to announce that starting tonight we will be covering the Dallas Mavericks, including their run in the playoffs.
We decided to include the Mavs in our coverage after being contacted by Mark Cuban, owner of the Mavs.
Although we cover news that pertains to the City of Irving, we feel many of Irving's residents are fans and followers of Dallas' professional teams. We would love to hear your comments on this.
The game tonight is against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Wolves come into the American Airlines Center with a 24-56 record. Although it seems like a gimme game for the Mavs, they've fallen to struggling teams like the Wolves during this up-and-down season.
The Mavs are coming off a 102-92 loss to the Hornets in New Orleans where they played decent basketball but the shots just did not fall at the end.
Dallas is currently holding the 7th playoff spot in the Western Conference with Utah a game behind at the 8th spot. The Mavs are trying to get to that 6th spot, but are a game behind the Hornets after Sunday's loss and with two games remaining in the season.
The jockeying for playoff position is very important this year as the 8th spot will face the mighty Lakers in the first round of the playoffs. The 7th spot will more than likely face the Nuggets while the 6th could face either the Spurs, Rockets or TrailBlazers, depending on who ends up in the third spot.
One disadvantage for the Mavs tonight might be the absence of Josh Howard who played 34 minutes against the Hornets. Howard's ankle has been a problem this season and Coach Carlisle might consider resting him for tonight's game.
If that's the case, the Mavs will again have to rely on the scoring of Dirk and Terry with solid contributions from their bench.
