Dallas Woman Gets Life in Prison for Killing Red Bird Mall Business Owner After Years of Harassment

DALLAS - A 45-year-old woman has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to murdering a Dallas business owner she met on a dating app years earlier.

Rashonda Deshawn Lowe pleaded guilty to murder in the July 1, 2025, shooting death of 53-year-old Jaime Alejandro Rokkett. A jury sentenced Lowe to life in prison Aug. 17.

According to prosecutors, Lowe met Rokkett through a dating app in 2018. She learned in 2022 that he was married, and prosecutors said she spent the next three years harassing Rokkett and his family through phone calls, text messages and in-person encounters. The conduct also included what prosecutors described as a false police report and a civil lawsuit.

Rokkett eventually obtained a restraining order against Lowe because of the ongoing harassment.

On July 1, 2025, Lowe went to Rokkett's business at Red Bird Mall and remained there for nearly two hours, according to prosecutors. Surveillance video showed Lowe talking with Rokkett inside the store for about an hour before the shooting.

Prosecutors said Lowe repeatedly told Rokkett she did not want to live her life without him. She then shot him eight times.

Rokkett owned Cookies 'N Smoothies and had previously founded local music and entertainment ventures, including Xperience Music.

Lowe entered what is known in Texas as a slow plea, pleading guilty while leaving punishment for the jury to decide. During the punishment proceedings, the defense argued Lowe shot Rokkett after he told her he had molested her teenage daughter.

Prosecutors disputed that account and said no evidence was presented to corroborate the accusation. They also pointed to Lowe's own statement on the day of the killing that Rokkett had never even raised his voice at her during the seven years they knew each other.

The jury sentenced Lowe to life in prison.

Dallas County prosecutors David Isaacks and Mackensie Pfleger handled the case. Dallas Police investigated the killing.
