Prosper Rock Hill High School JROTC Instructor Found Guilty of Indecent Assault of Student
Michael Christopher Songy

MCKINNEY, Texas — A Collin County jury has found a former JROTC instructor at Prosper Rock Hill High School guilty of indecent assault after prosecutors said he inappropriately touched an 18-year-old female student inside a classroom supply closet shortly before graduation.

Michael Christopher Songy, 44, of Frisco, was convicted of the Class A misdemeanor offense, according to Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis.

Songy had served as the student's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) instructor for two years when the incident occurred.

Student Reported Assault to Teacher Before Graduation

According to prosecutors, the assault happened during the week before graduation when Songy was alone with the 18-year-old student inside a classroom supply closet at Rock Hill High School.

Songy initiated a hug before reaching underneath the student's shirt and touching her inappropriately.

Afterward, Songy wrote his phone number on a sticky note and gave it to the student.

The student reported what happened to another teacher, prompting an investigation by the Prosper Independent School District Police Department.

Investigators Recovered Note and Electronic Messages

During an interview with Prosper ISD police, the student provided investigators with the sticky note containing Songy's phone number.

Detectives also recovered evidence from phones and computers, including a message Songy sent the day after the assault asking the student to return to his classroom.

Songy was subsequently arrested and charged with indecent assault, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the District Attorney's Office, indecent assault was the highest charge available under Texas law for the conduct described in the case.

Sentencing Scheduled for November 12

Following the presentation of evidence, a Collin County jury found Songy guilty of indecent assault.

Judge David Waddill is scheduled to determine Songy's punishment on November 12, 2026.

Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis praised the jury's verdict.

“A Collin County jury found this defendant guilty of indecently assaulting one of his students,” Willis said. “Holding adults accountable when they violate the trust placed in them by students is important, and that is what the jury did here.”

Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Logan Goodwin and Caitlyn Jones prosecuted the case, with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Xavier Badillo and Victim Assistance Coordinator Valerie Miller.
