Mexican National With Seven DWI Convictions Sentenced to More Than 6 Years for Illegal Reentry

DALLAS - A Mexican national with seven drunken-driving convictions has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to illegally reentering the United States.

Fernando Salvador Perez Morales, 46, was sentenced Sept. 23 to 74 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas. The office is led by U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould.

Perez Morales was indicted in November 2025 and pleaded guilty in March to illegally reentering the United States.

According to federal court records cited by prosecutors, Perez Morales accumulated seven convictions for driving while intoxicated between 2009 and 2025. Two of those cases involved crashes in which he left the scene.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement apprehended Perez Morales in August 2025 following his seventh DWI conviction, according to prosecutors.

Federal authorities said Perez Morales had previously been removed from the United States in 2013 and again in 2020. ICE officials said he illegally returned to the country three times.

He is expected to face removal proceedings again after completing his 74-month federal prison sentence.
