Fort Worth Man Gets Life in Prison for Slashing Woman's Throat in East Lancaster Area
Marcus Wayne Springer

FORT WORTH, Texas - A Tarrant County jury sentenced a 44-year-old registered sex offender to life in prison Friday after finding him guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an attack that left a Fort Worth woman with her throat slashed.

Marcus Wayne Springer was convicted Oct. 2 in the 372nd District Court for the March 25, 2025, attack.

According to information released about the case, Springer frequented the East Lancaster Avenue area of Fort Worth and approached the woman that day, asking her to go with him to his home.

The two walked toward a remote area, where Springer attacked her. The assault caused the woman to lose consciousness, and Springer slit her throat, according to prosecutors.

She survived and was able to make her way to a nearby home for help.

Fort Worth police began investigating and spoke with other women in the area. Investigators learned of reports that Springer had committed similar acts of violence against women during the preceding months.

Springer was located and arrested March 29, 2025, four days after the attack. His bond was denied, and he remained in custody while the case was pending.

At the time of the assault, Springer was on parole and was required to register as a sex offender because of a previous Tarrant County case.

Records from that case show Springer was convicted in 2006 on two counts of indecency with a child by contact. One victim was identified in records as a 16-year-old girl, while information about the other victim was listed as unknown.

Springer received two 25-year prison sentences, which were ordered to run concurrently. Records indicate he became eligible for parole in November 2017, although the information available does not establish when he was released. He was subsequently granted parole and was still under supervision when the 2025 attack occurred.

The jury found Springer guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced him to life in prison.

The case was prosecuted by Allenna Bangs, Darren De La Cruz and Taylor Ross. DA Investigator Patrick Knotss and Victim Advocate Laura Medina also worked on the case.

The Fort Worth Police Department's East Division, Patrol, Directed Response Unit and Homicide Division were involved in the investigation and Springer's arrest.
