Fort Worth Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Fatal Shooting Block Party
FORT WORTH, Texas - A Tarrant County jury has sentenced a 30-year-old man to 30 years in prison for the murder of a 23-year-old Fort Worth man who was shot during a late-night block party in August 2024.
Kevonte Williams was found guilty of murder this week in the shooting death of Jacouryan "Coury" Johnson, a graduate of O.D. Wyatt High School.
The shooting occurred around 1:45 a.m. Aug. 18, 2024, during a large block party outside a strip mall on Miller Avenue in Fort Worth.
According to the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office, a fight broke out between two women attending the gathering.
During the disturbance, Williams, a convicted felon who was carrying a firearm, approached Johnson and shot him in the chest.
Johnson was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital, where doctors attempted to save his life. He died from his injuries in the operating room.
Fort Worth police investigated the shooting, which led to Williams being charged with murder.
The case was prosecuted by the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office Gang Unit.
Following the presentation of evidence, jurors convicted Williams of murder and assessed his punishment at 30 years in prison.
