Nimitz Loses Final District Game But Ready for Playoffs
Nimitz lost to Cedar Hill, the state's top ranked team by a score of 52-7 last friday night.
Against a solid Nimitz team, which was No. 15 in the area 5A rankings, Cedar Hill smashed its way to touchdowns on its first two drives and then basically went into cruise control.
"They just mauled us up front," said Nimitz coach Steve Hohenberger, whose team will face Allen in the first round of the Division II bracket on Saturday night.
Mason Hayes rushed 21 times for 147 yards and the Longhorns had more than enough offensive power to rest banged-up running back Ben Malena against Nimitz (7-3, 4-2), which had won four of its last five games.
Nimitz is happy to be back in the playoffs. They will face defending 5A Division I champion Allen at 6 p.m. Saturday, in Standridge Stadium.
