Irving to Host Mustang League World Series

Eight teams will compete in Irving for the 16th consecutive year

The Mustang League World Series – the world championship for baseball players ages 9 and 10 – will be held Aug. 4-7, 2010, in Irving, Texas. The venue seems only fitting, organizers say, since Irving is known for its famed Mustangs of Las Colinas sculpture and success in hosting world-class sporting events.

As Series host, the Irving Blue Allstars Team has earned a spot on the World Series roster, through battling competitions to win a spot as the area host.  The remaining seven teams are derived from regional competitions conducted throughout North America.

The Olympic-style tournament will play out in Irving’s Trinity View Park at 2098 E. Sixth Street.  The opening ceremony is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, with the championship game scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 7.

This is the 16th consecutive year the Irving Boys Baseball Association has hosted the event in Irving, a city known for hosting some of the biggest sporting events in Texas – Dallas Cowboys games, the PGA Tour’s HP Byron Nelson Championship, the 2000 Olympic Triathlon Trials, and dozens of others, including district, sectional, state and regional PONY events.

In 2009, Caguas (Villa Nueva), Puerto Rico defeated Chino Hills, Calif., at the Mustang World Series championship in a 5-2 victory for their second Mustang World Series history win.
