MacArthur High soccer team loses a heartbreaker to Colleyville
MacArthur High School played Colleyville Heritage at ISS this past Friday. The score was 2-1 in favor of the Panthers.
It was a hard-fought, physical game from the start for the MacArthur Cardinals. And it had to be, considering Colleyville Heritage is ranked number one in district as of right now, with a record of 4-0-0. The game offered little entertainment in the first half, with both teams mostly holding possession in the midfield.
MacArthur came out with all engines roaring in the second half, and in the 20th minute found themselves one goal up, a product of Lautaro Guevara finding a loose ball inside the six and shooting to the left goalpost while the keeper dived right. The Cardinals quickly assumed control of the game afterwards, and at one point had Colleyville Heritage chasing after the ball in total disarray.
The equalizer came on the 30th minute of play when, after a slight mistake from the Cardinal defense, Colleyville's Barry Foster had a wide open shot inside the penalty area. MacArthur goalkeeper Bruno Diaz batted at the ball yet it managed to somehow sneak in through the right corner post. The teams traded possessions, battling through 15 minutes of scoreless play before Foster did it again, this time from 30 yards out, a laser shot to the top left corner of the goalpost for the game winner in the 87th minute.
The team record is now 1-2-0 in district play.
Mac travels tonight to Hurst to face off against L.D.Bell at Pennington field.
