On June 22, 2024, around 12:30 am, Dallas Police responded to a shooting incident at a business located in the 8600 block of Lake June Road in Pleasant Grove.
According to preliminary reports, a suspect entered the establishment, approached the counter, and shot 32-year-old Gopi Krishna Dasari, who was working at the time. The suspect then fled after stealing merchandise from the store.
Dasari sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. On June 23, 2024, the Dallas Police Department was notified that Dasari had succumbed to his injuries.
Following an intensive investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 21-year-old Davonta Mathis. Mathis was apprehended and initially charged with Robbery. However, following Dasari's passing, Dallas Police obtained a Capital Murder warrant against Mathis. The Robbery charge will be dropped as the investigation progresses.
In a separate incident, Mesquite Police reported that Mathis is also linked to a fatal shooting in Mesquite where he allegedly entered a business and fatally shot a man.
The case remains under investigation by the Dallas Police Department, with updates being logged under case number 095920-2024.
