The vacant property at 711 S. St. Paul St., long a concern for its deteriorated condition and unauthorized occupancy, will soon see a fresh start. Today, the City of Dallas finalized its sale to a developer, a step that will allow for its swift demolition and eventual redevelopment.
Council Member Jesse Moreno, representing District 2, expressed his satisfaction with the decision, noting the property's troubled history. “The sale of this property and subsequent demolition is the only appropriate course of action in this case,” said Moreno. “I support efforts to pursue other opportunities to relinquish unused facilities for higher purposes in the City. I look forward to celebrating the revitalization that will be seen in Downtown Dallas as a result of today’s action.”
Over the summer, Council Member Moreno and his team raised significant concerns regarding the building, which had become home to approximately a dozen squatters and posed biological and safety hazards to the community. The City quickly responded by securing the building, addressing these issues, and preparing the site for future use.
As the Chair of the Housing & Homelessness Solutions Committee and Vice-Chair of the Parks, Trails, & Environment Committee, Moreno actively engages in initiatives to enhance his district, where he lives as a third-generation resident with his family. The planned demolition and future redevelopment of 711 S. St. Paul St. marks a key step in his vision for a revitalized downtown.
