John Randal 'Randy' Stipes

John Randal "Randy" Stipes of Irving, TX passed away at his home on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Randy was born on May 11, 1954 to John W. and Margie Stipes in Dallas, TX. Randy graduated from Nimitz High School in 1972, where he was a student trainer all four years. Upon graduating from Nimitz, he accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Texas. Randy was the first athletic trainer at the University of Texas to be a letterman and was presented a "T Ring" by Coach Darrell K. Royal. After graduating from UT in 1976, he accepted the Head Athletic Trainer position in Ft. Stockton, Texas. Following his years in Ft. Stockton, he went to work for Alert Services, selling athletic training supplies to high schools, universities, and pro teams. Randy also enjoyed working with the Cotton Bowl Association hosting and providing transportation for teams. Randy also worked as a trainer on the set of Friday Night Lights television show filmed in Austin, TX as well as the movie, One Heart, filmed in Arlington, TX. He served on the Irving School Board for nine years, serving as the Secretary, Vice President, and President. He also served on the Irving Schools Foundation Board of Directors for several years.

Preceded in death by his father, John W. Stipes, Randy is survived by his mother, Marjorie K. Stipes of Irving, TX.; brother Larry Stipes and wife Becky of Irving, TX.; sister Stacie Smith and husband Danny of Corinth, TX.; stepson Thomas Ross Turner and wife Madeline, along with their children Avery, Rice, Mary, and Frances Turner of Austin, TX.; niece Candace Garza and husband Armando of Grapevine, TX.; niece Randi Woodard and husband John of Irving, TX.; nephew Michael Stipes and wife Crystal of Comanche, TX.; niece Brenna Newman and husband Derek of Denton, TX.; nephew Chad Smith and wife Shelby of Fort Worth, TX.; and many great nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.

The family will receive visitors from 1:00-2:00 pm on Thursday, October 25 at First Baptist Church, 403 S. Main Street, Irving, TX 75060. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm there. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving, TX.
