North Richland Hills Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Scamming $600K to Fund Gambling Habit

Matthew Mixon

On March 14, 2025, 38-year-old Matthew James Mixon was sentenced to 25 years in prison for misapplication of fiduciary property.

Between February and October of 2019, Mixon used his business, Straight Financing, Inc., to defraud over 70 individuals and a financial institution out of nearly $600,000 to fuel his gambling addiction.

Mixon processed RV and boat loans but failed to complete the full funding, offering false excuses such as his child being sick in the hospital to delay payments to victims. His fraudulent activities expanded beyond Texas, as he scammed additional victims in Tennessee and Louisiana, not completing projects that customers had already paid for.

The North Richland Hills Police Department investigated the case. The prosecution was led by ADAs Anastasia Frane and Lori Varnell, with DA investigators Mark Taylor and Jeanette Hanna involved in the case.
