A tragic accident early Friday morning in Garland left one man dead after being struck by a police vehicle.
Around 6:30 a.m. on October 10, 2025, a Garland police officer had just left the department’s station on Forest Lane and was driving eastbound in the 1500 block of West State Street. As the officer neared McKinley Street, he encountered a pickup truck stopped in the roadway with no lights on, completely blocking the eastbound lane.
A man, later identified as 32-year-old Juan Pablo Rio Aguilar of Garland, was standing in front of the truck in the middle of the dark roadway when the officer approached. Despite trying to avoid a collision, the officer’s vehicle struck both the truck and Aguilar.
Aguilar was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The officer received medical care and has since been released.
Garland Police said the crash remains under active investigation, adding that their thoughts are with everyone affected by the incident.
