Lewisville Police Clarify Role in Federal Agency Pursuit Following Online Speculation

LEWISVILLE, TX - The Lewisville Police Department (LPD) released a statement addressing public speculation on Facebook regarding an incident involving LPD officers and federal agents earlier this week. The department said much of the online discussion contained incorrect assumptions about LPD’s involvement.

According to officials, the incident occurred Monday, December 1, when federal agents with Homeland Security were searching for a suspect wanted on an active arrest warrant in a neighboring community. Agents located the individual and followed his vehicle as he entered Lewisville.

Agents attempted to stop the suspect near FM 3040 and I-35E, but he fled, initiating a vehicle pursuit. During the chase, the suspect struck one of the federal agents’ vehicles. Federal agents then requested assistance from Lewisville Police due to the nature of the incident.

LPD officers arrived as the chase was coming to an end. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Police emphasized that LPD did not arrest the suspect; the arrest was made by federal agents.

The department noted that it routinely assists federal agencies when their operations occur inside Lewisville city limits and that it is obligated to do so when requested. LPD added that it does not conduct independent immigration enforcement, stating that responsibility lies solely with federal authorities.
