Dallas Police Arrest Violent Armed Robbery Suspect After Gang Unit Investigation

Luis Flores

Dallas police have arrested a known violent offender linked to an early-morning shooting and armed robbery that occurred on November 12 in Southeast Dallas.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Hillburn Drive around 5:39 a.m. after two victims reported being confronted at gunpoint. According to investigators, the suspect, Luis Antonio Flores, demanded their property and assaulted both victims when they refused. Before fleeing, he shot one of the victims.

Because Flores is associated with a known gang, patrol officers requested the Dallas Police Gang Unit to assist. Investigators and an FBI Task Force Officer interviewed the victims at the hospital, where both positively identified Flores by his tattoos and past encounters.

The Gang Unit secured two aggravated robbery warrants, and investigators also learned Flores had an outstanding warrant for a family violence assault.

On November 15, Southeast CRT officers located Flores walking on Norvell Drive carrying a black backpack. As officers approached, he tossed the backpack into a yard and tried to hide behind parked vehicles. Officers detained him and recovered a handgun and illegal drugs during the arrest.

Flores is now charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, manufacture and delivery of methamphetamine (7.9 grams), manufacture and delivery of heroin (3.7 grams), resisting arrest, and the outstanding aggravated robbery and family violence warrants. He was interviewed by detectives and booked into the Lew Sterrett Justice Center.

Police say Flores is a violent offender and has an extensive criminal history, including prior convictions for robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and felony drug offenses. He previously served a nine-year sentence beginning in 2016.

“The successful apprehension of this impact offender was the result of an expeditious thorough criminal investigation by the Gang Unit and the logistic planning and coordinated efforts of the Southeast Division CRT.  The arrest and the seizure of the firearm and illegal narcotics enhance the quality of life for our citizens and strengthen their trust and confidence in the Dallas Police Department.” said Major Andre Taylor
