DALLAS, Texas — A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to two separate murders in Dallas, including one that had remained unsolved until DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
Diarielle Jarveye McShane entered a guilty plea in both cases and was sentenced on April 2, 2026, according to the Dallas County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
The first case stems from the June 25, 2023, killing of 31-year-old Melanye Canedy. Investigators said McShane met Canedy for a prostitution-related encounter before tying her up, forcing her to withdraw money from an ATM, and robbing her. He then shot and killed her in a field in the 3100 block of Seaton Drive in Oak Cliff. Canedy was a mother of three.
During the investigation, prosecutors requested additional DNA testing. That testing linked McShane to a second, previously unsolved homicide.
The second case involves the November 1, 2023, killing of 39-year-old Atefeh Parsay Ganjavar, who was found dead in her southeast Oak Cliff apartment. Investigators later determined McShane had broken into the apartment of his upstairs neighbor and killed her with an unknown bladed weapon.
Authorities said a bloody shoeprint left at the scene matched the type of shoes McShane was wearing during a separate arrest. The motive in that case was determined to be burglary and robbery. Ganjavar was a refugee from Iran and lived with her young daughter.
Dallas Police detectives worked both cases, with the second case advancing after the DNA connection was made.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Chelsea McHenry, with assistance from investigators Martin Bosse and John Valdez.
McShane will serve a life sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
