American Airlines Honors Three World War II Veterans During Centennial Celebration at Rangers Game

FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines continued its 100th anniversary celebration by honoring three centenarian World War II veterans before the Texas Rangers game at Globe Life Field on May 28.

The veterans were recognized on the field and threw ceremonial first pitches as part of the airline's ongoing centennial events. The celebration also included visits with Rangers alumni, time with the team's mascot, Captain, and photo opportunities with the franchise's 2023 World Series trophy.

The honored veterans included:

  • Allan Chatwin, 100, who served in Guam during World War II.
  • Donald G. Graves, 101, who fought in the historic Battle of Iwo Jima.
  • Carlyle Hayes, 100, who served as a signalman during the war.

“As American reflects on 100 years, this moment serves as a powerful reminder that our story is deeply connected to the lives and service of those who shaped the past century and continue to inspire future generations,” said Caroline Clayton. “Throughout our centennial year, we’ve honored that legacy in meaningful ways — including recognizing veterans at moments like this — reflecting our ongoing commitment to those who serve and the enduring impact they have made.”

Earlier in the week, American Airlines also hosted families of fallen military service members during the Rangers' Memorial Day game as part of its continued recognition of veterans and military families.

The event was held at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, and served as one of several commemorative activities planned during American Airlines' centennial year.
