IRVING, Texas - An Irving man is facing multiple charges after police say he resisted officers and injured two officers during an arrest Sunday morning at an apartment complex in Irving.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9:06 a.m. May 24 to the Marfa Apartments in the 2700 block of West Walnut Hill Lane regarding a suspicious person.
When officers arrived, they contacted 28-year-old Billy Dewayne Johnson Jr., who matched the description provided to 911 dispatchers.
Police said a resident at the apartment complex began yelling to officers from inside an apartment, claiming Johnson had attempted to enter the residence.
Authorities detained Johnson while officers investigated the situation.
According to police, Johnson gave officers consent to search him, and an officer discovered a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance hidden in Johnson’s sock. Investigators said the substance later tested positive for methamphetamine.
Police said Johnson, who was already handcuffed at the time, then began resisting officers by pulling away, grabbing officers’ wrists, locking an officer’s leg, attempting to grab pistol magazines from an officer’s duty belt, and making verbal threats toward officers.
Investigators said while officers were placing Johnson into a patrol vehicle, he again grabbed an officer’s wrist and kicked another officer in the shin.
Two officers suffered abrasions, bruises, and scratches during the altercation and were treated at the scene.
Johnson was booked into the Irving Jail on charges including possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest, assault on a peace officer, and multiple outstanding warrants issued by the Dallas Police Department for public camping and public intoxication.
His bond was set at $31,000.
Court records show Johnson has multiple prior convictions. In December 2025, he pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary of a building connected to break-ins at Euro Automotive and Ken’s Muffler in Dallas and was sentenced to six months in county jail.
In August 2024, he was convicted on drug charges in Denton County and sentenced to 119 days in jail.
Before that, Johnson pleaded guilty in 2022 to assaulting an Irving police officer and was sentenced to 90 days in county jail. In 2019, he was convicted in Robertson County for vehicle theft.
