IRVING, Texas — Senter Park Recreation Center will temporarily close beginning June 1 as construction continues on the city’s major redevelopment project that will transform the facility into the new Senter Park Aquatic and Recreation Center.
According to the City of Irving, most programs currently offered at Senter Park will temporarily relocate to Georgia Farrow Recreation Center, while other activities will move to nearby recreation sites, including Senter Park East.
City officials also said fitness center members will still be able to use fitness facilities at other Irving recreation centers during the closure.
An estimated reopening date has not yet been announced.
The project is part of a $23 million renovation and expansion aimed at modernizing the long-standing South Irving facility.
Plans for the upgraded center include:
- A new entrance
- A new natatorium
- An enclosed indoor pool
- Expanded recreation space
The renovation will add approximately 27,837 square feet to the existing facility, including about 14,545 square feet dedicated to aquatic amenities.
Once construction is completed, the recreation center is expected to total approximately 62,061 square feet.
The project is currently running behind schedule. Original timelines projected construction would wrap up by February 2026, with the new facility opening to the public during summer 2026.
Senter Park Recreation Center is located at 901 S. Senter Road in South Irving.
