IRVING, Texas — A man accused of kidnapping his young son at gunpoint was arrested after an Amber Alert led to the child’s safe recovery, according to the Irving Police Department.
Police said 25-year-old Juan Guillermo Cardoza-Ortega abducted his 4-year-old son April 19th from an apartment in the 3400 block of N. Country Club Road. He does not have custody of the child.
Authorities issued an Amber Alert in coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety. By 2:45 a.m. April 20th, officers located the child and safely reunited him with family members.
The investigation continued, and officers later located Cardoza-Ortega the evening of April 20th and took him into custody without incident.
During the arrest, police found him in possession of a large quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Cardoza-Ortega was booked into the Irving Jail and charged with aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon, abandonment or endangering a child with intent to return, possession of marijuana between 5 and 50 pounds, and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities said he posted bond April 28 and was released. The case is now being handled by the Dallas County Criminal District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
The investigation remains ongoing.
