IRVING, Texas — Construction on the next phase of a major corridor improvement project is set to begin this spring along Irving Boulevard.
Phase 2 of the Irving Boulevard Street Lighting Project will focus on the stretch between Willow Creek Drive and West Pioneer Drive. The project will replace 39 existing solar-powered streetlights with standard electric LED poles that meet Texas Department of Transportation specifications.
In addition to lighting upgrades, the city will extend fiber-optic cable for the traffic signal interconnect system between Story Road and Pioneer Drive. Officials say the upgrade will help keep traffic signals synchronized, with the fiber system serving as a backup to the current wireless network.
The project is funded through the Irving Boulevard Street Lighting Project Bond Fund and is expected to cost approximately $800,000. Construction is anticipated to be completed this fall.
Motorists are advised to watch for traffic signage and crews working in the area during construction.
Phase 1 of the project was completed in early 2022, replacing 40 streetlights between Sowers Road and Pioneer Drive. A third and final phase, currently in the design stage, will extend improvements from Lee Street to State Highway Loop 12.
