Plano West defeated MacArthur 78-69 in a Class 6A Semifinal game.   The Cardinals were dominated most of the game, making it a little dramatic down the stretch.

MacArthur was down 17-0 in the first four minutes of the game.

Despite the catastrophic start, Mac's boys battled back with the help of Jones (18 points), Demetrick Bush (17 points) and Donny Ray Belcher III (17 points). They trimmed the lead to eight points early in the third quarter and got as close as 74-69 when West's Belcher drove for a basket with 27 seconds left.

MacArthur tried to steal the inbounds pass that followed, but ended up fouling Hogg, who made a pair of free throws. MacArthur, which made just eight of 32 shots in the first half before making a respectable 18 of 39 in the second, was out of time.

“We knew we’d make a run. We always have a burst,” MacArthur coach Toby Martin said. “We just made our run a little too late.”

Plano West (32-2) will play Houston Clear Lake in the 6A state title. The Wolves have been ranked No. 1 in the state all season.

For MacArthur, a remarkable season comes to an end, finishing with a record of 27-9.
