Irving Police Announce DWI Enforcement Initiative for July 4th weekend

The Irving Police Department will take part in a No Refusal, DWI Enforcement Initiative over the July 4th holiday period.  Additional officers whose primary focus will be to locate and arrest impaired drivers will be on duty.   The enforcement period is between July 4th, 2019 and July 7th, 2019.  During that time, the participating officers will concentrate their efforts on DWI patrols in high risk sites and at times when impaired driving is most frequent.

The goal of the police department is high visibility and enforcement efforts to warn those who would drive while impaired.

Every six hours, someone is killed in a DWI-related crash on Texas roadways.

When no-refusal operations are in effect, those stopped for suspected drunken driving are offered only a blood test. If they refuse, a judge is present to consider issuing search warrants that authorize on-the-spot blood collection for laboratory analysis.

In Texas, a driver is considered legally intoxicated if a chemical screening indicates a blood-alcohol content of .08 percent or more. The no-refusal campaign has proven to be a very successful program that reminds the public of the consequences of drunken driving.
