In the early hours of Monday morning, an altercation turned fatal when a Fort Worth Police Officer and a Fort Worth Fire Department Arson Investigator encountered an armed confrontation while responding to a call regarding illegal fireworks activity. The incident took place at the intersection of Ross Ave. and NW 32nd Street.
The Fort Worth officer and Arson investigator, who were working together as a team, immediately took action upon witnessing the active altercation. Both officers discharged their duty handguns, resulting in both male suspects being shot.
Following the exchange of gunfire, the officers swiftly initiated medical assistance to the injured individuals. Tragically, one male suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second male suspect was swiftly transported by Medstar to a local hospital, where he was also pronounced dead. A third male and a female, who had sustained gunshot wounds, were also discovered at the scene and subsequently transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
As the investigation is still ongoing, law enforcement officials are diligently gathering evidence. The Fort Worth Police Department Major Case Unit, Internal Affairs, and the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office have been assigned to conduct a thorough investigation, adhering to standard procedure for such cases.
Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes expressed his condolences and emphasized the gravity of the incident, highlighting the risks that officers face while safeguarding the community and enforcing the law. "This incident is a stark illustration of just how quickly a seemingly routine call can turn deadly for our officers as they work to keep our city safe and enforce the law," Chief Noakes stated.
