Arkansas Man Arrested in Lewisville Hit-and-Run Death After Claiming He Struck Deer

Jostin Paul Low

LEWISVILLE, Texas — An Arkansas man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run after investigators say evidence shows he struck a pedestrian and left the scene, later claiming he believed he hit a deer.

Jostin Paul Low of Bentonville, Arkansas, was arrested April 14, 2026, by Lewisville police officers and Denton County deputies. His bond was set at $25,000, which he later posted.

The investigation began March 14, 2026, around 7:35 a.m., when a 911 caller reported a man lying in the grass along the 2500 block of the Interstate 35E northbound frontage road.

Responding Lewisville officers and fire personnel determined the man, later identified as Demarcus Gibbs, was deceased at the scene.

Investigators located debris in the roadway, including a passenger-side mirror and pieces of a turn signal lens.

Authorities said Gibbs’ wife later arrived at the scene after locating his phone. She told officers he had last been seen the night before after dropping off a rental vehicle in Carrollton and was walking back toward a motel in Lewisville.

Video evidence showed Gibbs left a nearby RaceTrac around 10:52 p.m., and investigators estimated he would have been walking along the frontage road shortly before midnight.

The case was assigned as a fatal hit-and-run investigation.

Detectives obtained surveillance footage from nearby businesses, including cameras at an Olive Garden and a Northern Tool and Equipment store.

Video showed a yellow box truck in the area around 2:02 a.m., followed by a gray Dodge Ram pickup.

Investigators later identified the pickup’s owner, who told detectives her boyfriend drove the vehicle. He, in turn, directed investigators to a coworker who drove a yellow box truck.

Detectives contacted Low, who admitted he had been in an incident in the area but said he believed he struck a deer.

“He said, ‘I clipped a deer. It was dark. Didn’t see anything,’” according to the investigation.

Low told investigators he and a coworker later drove back through the area looking for the animal but did not find anything.

Photos later provided by Low showed damage to the front right side of the truck, including a missing passenger-side mirror and damage to the headlight assembly. Investigators said those parts appeared to match debris recovered at the scene.

Authorities noted the area was illuminated by nearby lighting and that the roadway shoulder and surrounding grass were visible.

Based on the investigation, detectives determined Low was involved in the fatal collision.

He was arrested on charges related to the crash and later released on bond.
