Fort Worth Police Pursuit Ends in Fatal Collision with Uninvolved Vehicle

On Thursday, July 6, 2023, shortly after 6:00 pm, officers with the Fort Worth Police Department's Directed Response Unit initiated a pursuit in an attempt to stop a stolen Dodge Challenger. The officers activated their overhead lights and siren, but the vehicle evaded them. In response, the officers promptly deployed stop sticks to deflate one of the suspect vehicle's tires. Despite this, the vehicle continued to flee.

During the pursuit, as it progressed northbound through the intersection of Rosedale St. and Evans Ave., an unrelated vehicle traveling eastbound collided with a police Tahoe that was involved in the pursuit. Consequently, the police Tahoe also collided with a second uninvolved vehicle at the intersection. The suspect vehicle, however, carried on and eventually came to a stop approximately one block away. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers managed to apprehend both occupants of the suspect vehicle.

Tragically, the driver of the vehicle that collided with the police Tahoe was ejected from their vehicle. Although officers promptly provided medical assistance, the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the second involved vehicle received on-site treatment. The officer who was operating the police vehicle that was struck sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Upon the incident, the Traffic Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Unit were dispatched to the location to conduct a thorough investigation of the accident.
