The leader of a drug trafficking organization, 29-year-old Alonzo Smith, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison, as announced by U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Leigha Simonton.
Smith was charged in May 2023 through a criminal complaint and pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. The sentencing took place on Thursday, conducted by U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman.
The investigation revealed that Smith, along with other individuals, including members of the 5x2 Hoova Crip gang heavily armed, operated multiple drug houses in the Fort Worth area. These residences were solely used for storing and distributing substantial quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin.
During a search warrant executed at one of the locations, law enforcement discovered 800 grams of methamphetamine, 188 grams of cocaine, 496 grams of black tar heroin, and 300 grams of fentanyl.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Fort Worth Police Department led the investigation. Lester R. Hayes, Jr., Special Agent in Charge of HSI Dallas, emphasized the commitment to disrupting and dismantling transnational criminal organizations that pose a true threat to public safety, particularly those seeking to exploit communities for financial gain.
