Last night, the City of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Fire Department paid tribute to a compassionate individual, Timothy Armstead, for his quick thinking and empathetic actions that led to a positive outcome for an 8-year-old child.
The incident occurred in October when Mr. Armstead, driving his tow truck, noticed a small child on the side of the road, dressed in pajamas despite the chilly weather. Concerned for the child's well-being, Mr. Armstead pulled over and attempted to communicate. However, it became evident that the child was non-verbal.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation and the importance of finding a warm and secure environment, Mr. Armstead remembered that fire stations are designated "Safe Places." With Fire Station 8 in close proximity, he promptly transported the child to the station, where the little one was safely reunited with family.
Without Mr. Armstead's timely intervention, the potential outcomes for the child remain uncertain. However, the positive reunion at Fire Station 8 highlighted the significance of his actions.
The Fort Worth Fire Department wants to remind residents that all 45 fire stations across the city serve as Safe Places. Since September, there has been a notable increase in children seeking assistance at these locations for various reasons. The public is urged to recognize designated Safe Places by identifying yellow placards displayed on the buildings. These locations are accessible 24/7 and provide immediate help and safety for youth aged 0-18 in need.
