In the early hours of Sunday, January 7, 2024, South Patrol officers responded to a robbery at a 24-hour vape shop located in the 6400 block of McCart Avenue in South Fort Worth. The incident, reported at approximately 4:00 a.m., described a black male wearing a face mask, armed with a crowbar, who had broken glass and made off with several items.
Within three minutes of receiving the call, officers arrived at the scene. The suspect, upon being located, fled on foot through an open field behind the shopping center. After a pursuit, officers found the suspect hiding in a residential backyard in the 3200 block of Fargo Court. Confrontation ensued, leading to an officer firing one shot that struck the suspect in the leg.
Prompt life-saving aid was administered to the 37-year-old suspect, who was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. There are no other suspects outstanding in connection with the robbery.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported inside the targeted business, and none of the officers involved in the incident sustained injuries. As the investigation unfolds, various units, including the Fort Worth Police Department Major Case Unit, Internal Affairs, and the Tarrant County District Attorney’s office, have responded to the scene to conduct a thorough inquiry. In line with standard procedure, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on Significant Event Leave. The investigation remains ongoing.
