On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, just before 7 pm, the Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a fire emergency in the 3200 block of Chenault Street in United Riverside. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy flames emerging from the rear of a one-story home.
In an organized effort, firefighters initiated the attack on the fire, pulling a line to contain the blaze. Simultaneously, other crews conducted a search of the home to ensure no occupants were trapped inside.
Inside the residence, firefighters discovered more than a dozen pets, including cats and dogs, amidst the thick smoke. The animals had suffered from smoke inhalation, prompting immediate resuscitation efforts in the front yard. Despite the team's best attempts, two cats tragically did not survive, while the remaining pets were successfully treated on-site.
The fire was brought under control within 20-25 minutes, preventing further damage to the property. Unfortunately, one resident sustained minor injuries and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
In the aftermath of the incident, the American Red Cross has stepped in to provide assistance to the nine adults displaced by the fire. Animal control crews have taken custody of the surviving pets.
