Woman Pleads Guilty to Murder in 2018 Save-A-Lot Robbery in South Fort Worth, Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison

Sonja Jones

In a recent development, the Tarrant County District Attorney's office announced that 25-year-old Sonja Jones has pleaded guilty to murder and received a 25-year prison sentence. The case dates back to January 11, 2018, when Jones, along with three others, robbed a Save-A-Lot grocery store located at 5519 James Ave in South Fort Worth.

Jones, who was 19 years old at the time, accompanied her boyfriend, 21-year-old Marquis Sypho, during the robbery. Tragically, Sypho shot and killed 26-year-old Raymond Huerta, who had stopped by the store to visit his wife, an employee there. Huerta was shot multiple times as he attempted to intervene and protect his wife during the robbery.

It was revealed that Jones, having previously worked at the store, admitted to helping plan the robbery. Suspicion about her involvement grew when an employee informed investigators that Jones had entered the store twice shortly before the robbery – first to use the restroom and the second time to shop.

Marquis Sypho is already serving a life sentence for murder. Additionally, two 16-year-old juveniles, one male and one female, were arrested at the time of the incident.
