Earlier today, at around 12:40 PM on Friday, January 19th, the Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a call reporting a vapor gas leak at the intersection of East 7th Street and Commerce in downtown Fort Worth.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a ruptured gas main near businesses where construction crews were actively working. People were seen evacuating from the affected area. The Fire Department promptly established a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) branch and began monitoring the air quality inside surrounding businesses. Fortunately, no issues were detected.
The gas leak has been contained as the supply has been shut off. Fire crews have concluded their operations at the scene. The presence of a strong wind aided in the quick dissipation of the gas, minimizing potential risks. As of now, there is no immediate threat to the area, and the situation is under control.
