In an emergency call, the Fort Worth Fire Department (FWFD) rushed to the Guanajuato Bakery located in the 3300 block of East Belknap Street just outside of downtown this morning, January 25, 2024, at around 10:30 am.

Upon arrival, FWFD crews discovered multiple individuals exhibiting signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure. Immediate treatment was administered outdoors, and simultaneously, Hazardous Materials (HazMat) teams entered the bakery premises to conduct a thorough search and monitor air quality.

A total of 18 bakery employees, all listed as "green" (stable), were subsequently transported to local hospitals for further assessment.

The Health Department was present at the scene, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the carbon monoxide leak.

As a precautionary reminder, authorities advise the public to install carbon monoxide detectors on every level of their homes and outside of sleeping areas. It is crucial to change detector batteries twice a year, coinciding with the routine maintenance of smoke alarms, and to test the devices monthly.
