Ellis County Sheriff's Office Responds to Officer-Involved Shooting Incident

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office issued a statement regarding an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred on Friday, February 9, 2024, within the city limits of Glenn Heights, Texas. The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the shooting, while the Ellis County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division is handling the investigation into the robbery.

The incident unfolded around 2:45 pm when Glenn Heights Police Department responded to a reported robbery in the 2500 block of Sunburst Drive. Upon arrival, officers encountered individuals matching the description of the robbery suspects. A confrontation ensued, leading to an altercation with one of the suspects who began firing a weapon at the officers. In response, the officers returned fire, resulting in the suspect sustaining life-threatening injuries. The suspect was transported to the hospital for treatment but was later pronounced deceased.

The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. The Ellis County Sheriff's Office is collaborating with the Texas Rangers, overseen by the Texas Department of Public Safety, to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting. Additionally, the Ellis County Sheriff's Office is conducting an independent investigation into the robbery that prompted the law enforcement response.
