21-Year-Old Found Guilty of Murder, Sentenced to 65 Years in Tarrant County

Damond Cotton

On March 28, 2024, the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office announced that 21-year-old Damond Cotton was found guilty and sentenced by a jury to 65 years in prison for murder.

On January 25, 2022, the victim, Kevin Brown, was shot by Cotton in the head outside his Fort Worth home.

It was revealed that Cotton collaborated with the victim's son, Braylin Brown, in carrying out the killing. Additionally, prosecutors successfully demonstrated that Cotton had committed multiple violent crimes, including aggravated robbery, prior to the murder.

"This family deserves justice," said Assistant DA Katie Owens to the jury. "Your community is not going to be safe with him in it."

The Fort Worth Police Department conducted the investigation into the case.
